New user, Mounting?

Why do I have to mount my CDROM and floppy disk to see them, everytime I reboot. Isn't there an option I can choose to mount them every time? How come they are not mounted by default? I have a Red Hat 7.1 Linux distribution.

Thanks

Just add the appropriate entry to /etc/fstab.

Switch to SuSE or Mandrake, they are much easier!

In the file /etc/fstab what exactly to I need to do? Here is my guess. Let me know if I'm right.

/dev/cdrom mnt/cdrom iso9660 auto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

What is SuSE or Mandrake?

I'm brand new to Linux. I'm trying to setup a Linux web server as a testing environment for my Perl scripts. I'm trying to see out how much the server can handle. I'm trying to make the scripts more efficient and I am also considering tying mod_perl.

Do you guys know of some good beginner resources? (books, websites, forumns, etc.)

Thanks

Put a slash b4 mnt. Looks otherwise OK. Put it in and see if you get errors.

Names of two other Linux distros which are easier than RedHat (and better imho).

Why don't you just do that in Windoze or seriously learn Linux?

There are lots. If you had the SuSE distro, I'd tell you to read its manual. I think it doesn't harm to read first the dead trees that you bought with RedHat though.

Don't like this one? Try Google.
