1). Is using Kylix a better proposition than using Qt for developing GUI based client server Applications on Linux?
2). What are good online sites for help on Kylix IPC/networking programming? |

1)
kylix is (object-)pascal. qt is afaik only available for C/C++. If you are already using kylix, you donīt need qt. Imho none is better or worse, itīs a matter of choice. For a beginner i recommend kylix. itīs a complete RAD tool. 2) in kylix you use the same classes like in delphi, so any delphi page should be of great help. there is 1000s on the net. A short excerpt from my links collection: community.borland.com - very good start! become a member (for free) to be able to download 1000s of code snippets and tutorials for delphi and kylix www.torry.ru - just great. delphi.about.com - also a great site. Zarko is a really good teacher / writer. And it has a special area about kylix www.delphizine.com - iirc not for free, but some older articles are www.delphicity.net - canīt remember what this one was about all of them should have a link list to provide you with many other urls.

Since the "Delphi" Kylix has been out for a few years, it is more stable and there are a lot more code examples. The "C++ Builder" Kylix was just released a few months back and users have found several bugs especially with the Qt headers. I don't know if this problem affects the Linux side, but I know users are having trouble making truly portable code that compiles on both Windows and Linux (click here). I've just started using Kylix3 and like it a lot. I've never programmed using Qt, so I can't give an opinion. Another Link that might have useful info: http://www.drbob42.com/kylix/index.htm http://rick-ross.com/papers/borcon2001/6206.html |

I was in the bookstore yesteday and saw the following book on the shelf:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...7871049-8972950 It had 59 pages on IPC programming. I don't know how easy it would be to find a copy in Bangalore but I thought I would mention it anyway.... |
