    Permissions Issue

I have a file where the permissions are
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 osr epanagio 578 Jul 10 2012 /home/<path-to-file>
The user epanagio is a member of the osr group
    cat /etc/group | grep epanagio
    epanagio:x:502:
    osr:x:517:epanagio
While I am logged in as "epanagio" and I try to "ls" the file I get
/bin/ls: cannot access /home/<path-to-file>: Permission denied
What am I doing wrong here?

If memory serves, the ls -l list format gives owner then group, so what you are showing is owned by user osr and has a group affiliation of epangio.

What execute permissions do the directories leading up to your file have?

    Good question.

A directory above had the wrong permissions. Once changed...now it works like a charm.

    THANKS!

I hate it when that happens! Glad you got it sorted.
