problem booting from CD in RedHat8
I go to boot off the cd in RH8 and I get the folllowing
ext unable to read superblock cramfs: wrong magic FAT:unable to read boot sector isofs_rea_super: bread failed kernel panic VFS unable to mount root fs on 9:02 I've tried various boot options like noprobe, with no luck. Anyone have an idea of what I can try next? |

If it gets to boot the kernel, booting off a CD should work in general.
The problem could be RedHat using a HD-emulation boot image that is not supported by all PCs. If your PC is older (letīs say older than three years), try upgrading your BIOS.... - if not, try this anyway, it might help. If you have a Windows installation around, get WinISO (search google) and have a look at the boot image. if it is bigger than 2.88 MB, my assumption is probably true. [EDIT] Another idea: did you switch boot order in the Bios? i.e. "Boot from IDE-1"? remove this (reset to "Boot from IDE-0") before you start installing linux. [/EDIT]
