Redhat 8.0 wont install on new WD 20 gig HD

Im stumped! I bought a new 20 gig WD200BB hardrive for my Redhat box & tried to do a new install. Evertime I try I get kernel panic or failed, it OK to reboot your system. I did get 1/2 way thru the install the third time (just past picking the packges to install & bango, screen went black, got termination dribble & then its ok to reboot you machine.....what is up with that?
Here's the hardware:

Asus P5A mobo
AMD K6-2 500 CPU
NEW Western digital WD200BB harddrive (20 gig, 7200 rpm)
Tried 3 CD roms
GeForce AGP video

The ONLY thing that has changed is the harddrive. If I put the 2 old 5400 rpm, 4.5 gig drives back in she fires up & runs like lightning.....

Could be a bad hard drive. Try running some diagnostic programs on it (believe WD has some on their site).

That's an "old" motherboard. Is the BIOS capable of using a 20G drive properly?

I thought of that, so I hooked it up to another machine & had windows 2000 installed in no time with no problems at all.... Im attempting a Mandrake 9 load right now

I did a bios upgrade , supports the 20 gig no problem

Thanks Spoot for the point in the right direction, it wasnt actually Redhat, or the mobo or the hardrive. It was a combination of the hardrive - mobo not "playing nice" together. I hooked the drive up to a newer mobo with a 1gig T'Bird & the install FLEW thru without so much as a wimper.

Thanks again!
