Please excuse my ignorance if this question seems rudimentary.
I currently have openldap 2.0.27.x installed on a redhat linux 8.0 box. I would like to install openldap 2.1.x due to the fact when this machine was configured the openldap-server rpm was not installed. Recently redhat released an update for openldap which upgraded openldap 2.0.25 to openldap 2.0.27 which I installed. This creates a problem for me. I tried to install the openldap 2.0.25-server rpm, but could not because the server rpm needed the 2.0.25 version of openldap and I get a list of dependiency errors as well. I could not remove the current openldap package with rpm -e because I get a list of dependency errors. I cannot find a 2.0.27 version of the openldap-server rpm so I when through the steps of configuring and installing openldap 2.1.x from the openldap.org website which seemed to worked, but I guess really didn't since when I do a rpm -q openldap it returns the 2.0.27 version and not the 2.1 version I configured and installed. Also when I do a search of openldap I only get the older version. What can I do about this beside reformat the machine? Does anyone have any suggestions? |

How did you install 2.1.x? From source? If so, your RPM database won't know about it at all.

Yes I installed the rpm from source and I understand now that the RPM database would not be able to see. But why is it when I do a search from the slapd.conf file or go to the locations where the .conf files should be there is nothing? Is there a way I can remove the openldap rpm? |

use linuxconf to erase all the files that you want to get rid of.
