Smile RH 8 doesn't boot properly

hello friends,

I have just installed linux "properly" into my laptop. After I restarted my computer, I choose to boot from linux(b/c I have chosen dual boot with windows 2000)...it generated a list of command lines until it says "Partition checking: ..hda1, hda2..<hda5><hda6>" and IT STUCKS there....

so I just my disk to do a linux rescue...but I don't know what to do next....it says that my system has been mounted under /mnt/sysimage and I can make my system the root environment by running the command:

chroot /mnt/sysimage

1) what's the problem with my boot up? why it stucks?
2) how can i solve it?

thanks for your advices.
