rpm installation

Im trying to install apache and php in console mode


However when i try
rpm -inv package


Im getting
cannot write to //usr/src/redhat/SOURCES


Can anyone tell us how i can change permissions

What gets me is i log in as root and get a warning about the how dangerous this is so i logout and login as user but then can't do anything


Can i operate as root under user

I first installed zip-xxx... and that installed correctly

zip
#
then i did rpm -q zip
zip-xxx...


Alright so far


Then i did the same for apache and php got the hash sequence
tried to -q apache and php and rpm said not installed


How can this be


I followed the same routines as the zip install
but it obvisouly hasn't installed them

I notice that in your first post you mention "rpm -inv" - are you sure about the "n"? Cuz afaik the usual params would be "rpm -Uhv" or "rpm -ihv".

No that's a typo on my part i got the hash sequence for all packages but the only one that installed correctly was zip
when i did rpm -q apache it returned not installed same with php
