Samba 2.2.0 freezing after 5M transfer.

Hi

I've got SuSe 7.2 Pro on my old Hyundai P5000D(About 166 MHz) with samba 2.2.0 installed and a Omnibook XE3-GC with win2k.
I've successfully connected them together and can access the linux box from my windoze box. But when I start transferring data betwen them, after about 5 megs the win machine finishes the file it was transferring and then brings an error message and after that I have to reboot my linux box so I can access it again, else it gives the erro "//Linux not accessible. The network path was not found." The wierd thing though is that no matter how much larger the file is over those 5 megs it always finishes that file before cutting me off.

If I'm not making sense or you need more info please let me know.

Regards
Andri Mar Jónsson

I have a similar problem but at least it doesn't happen during a transfer. I have a XP box which can acces the files on my samba server but every once in a while XP refuses to see it (it says it doesn't exists or something like that) even if I specify the IP address or go throught other means. However, I am able to mount the windows share. Does that happen both ways for you?

Try setting half-duplex and lower the speed too, might be some ethernet errors (ifconfig shows that).

As root type: ifconfig it will show something like this:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:4B:15:28:7C
          inet addr:192.168.1.101 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:895754 errors:4 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:4
          TX packets:848040 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:879303131 (838.5 Mb) TX bytes:307056369 (292.8 Mb)
          Interrupt:10 Base address:0x1000

As you can see there are 4 errors but no dropped packet (humm, time for investigation ). Out of that many packets received this amount of error is just fine. Check it out several times, before and after it hangs.

If the problem is only on the windows side then I can't help you. Your mind may collapse if you try to understand Windows.
