Services keep on defaulting to off?
I have just installed Mandrake, I know nothing about it but know windows well (the problem begins).
Anyhow I have bashed my way through it and am slowly learning... sllooooooowly! Here's the problem : I keep on setting the "MySQL" service to start on boot - Mandrake does not think this is a good idea so it keeps on switching it off. It seems to be doing the same with samba. I tried "chkconfig smb on" and "chkconfig mysql on" in the command line but there is no change. I also tried changing the "msec" to 1 this also made no change. As a result I have to turn them on after booting. Any ideas ? Thanks. Dwane

Change to the /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/ directory. Rename the MySQL entry (and any others you care to start) to begin with an S. Hence, change K70mysql to S70mysql. Do the same for the links in /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/ if you boot straight into a GUI.
man chkconfig should also prove useful.
