    setup network for suse 7.3

I just installed SuSe 7.3. After my installation I went out and bought a NIC (linksys NC100). After installing the new nic, I went through Yast2 and configured TCPIP. The problem is that I'm not able to ping the new ip I just setup.

When I try ifconfig eth1 I get no such device. I've been searching for hours on how to solve this problem. If someone can help point me in the right direction that would be most excellent. If you need more information, please let me know....david

linux starts device numbering with "0". so: ifconfig eth0

if this doesn´t help you, type "lsmod", this shows the loaded drivers. look on the NIC and read the inscription on the biggest chips. if there is something similar in your lsmod-list, the driver is ok. (they are called like rtl8139 = Realtek 8139 Chip, ne2kpci=NE2000 compatible pci card ...)
