Sharing a printer...with a scanner?

I'm going to be setting up a wireless network soon and building a little server to run linux on and take a 24/7 server load of my main comp. I would like my printer to be available to all the comps in my house, even when my main one isn't on. So I was thinking that I would just plug the printer into the linux box since it would be on 24/7 anyway. But the problem is that my scanner is built into my printer (HP PSC 500). Would there be a way for the other computers on my network to access the scanner? I don't want to have to go onto my linux server every time I want to scan an image.

If anyone has any experience with this or knows what I could do about it, any help is appreciated. Or, if you know or any good wireless (802.11b) print servers that can handle built in scanners.

Thanks for any replies.

i tried to make a Brother scanner work over the network in windows only. no way.
seems like "twain" drivers only support local scanners, so without a new twain driver you probably can´t do.

one solution could be setting up a web-interface (or writing your own little client) to operate the scanner remotely, it can eg. mail the scanned page to you or put it on a samba share. see the compatibility database of your distribution and the documentation of the package "sane" if linux does support your scanner at all.

for the printer function only - no problem

you should visit the page first, then judge.
the first line on this page says:
"This is an HP-sponsored project "

My heart was filled with joy too when I read that. And it was really a piece of cake to install the printer drivers. The Scanner part is a bit trickier, but I rarely use the scanner anways.
