simple printing question
I am trying to print to a postscript printer on the local network. It is identified as xerox-n40 in my /etc/printcap, and I can issue the following command successfully:
echo "bla bla" | lpr -P xerox-n40 But how can I set this printer to be the default? I am on RH 8.0 and I have tried using the printer settings utility, but I'm too dumb to know what to put in the little boxes :) All I wanna do is print my li'l graphs from gnumeric :) christo here's my printcap entry: lp|Xerox DocuPrint N40:\ :rm=192.168.1.195:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ :af=/var/log/lp-acct:\ :lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\ :pl#66:\ :pw#1:\ :pc#150:\ :mx#0:\ :sh: xerox-n40|Xerox DocuPrint N40:\ :rm=192.168.1.195:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/xerox-n40:\ :af=/var/log/lp-acct:\ :lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\ :pl#66:\ :pw#1:\ :pc#150:\ :mx#0:\ :sh:

well I did get it working in the end.. it was just a matter of bullying redhat's printer config utility until it did what I wanted... It does bother me, though, that just the core UNIX lpd and lpc utilities couldn't stand up against the Redhat system. Is this where GNU/Linux will take it's next branch, as we watch certain distros force their widgets upon us?
