startup script ?
Is it possible to start an application everytime a user logs in or starts a virtual terminal ?

Depends on the shell you use. In bash you can add lines to the .bash_profile and/or .bashrc files that will launch the scripts when they login.

Most shells have some sort of dotfile (like .bashrc) for login actions. I know zsh has .zlogin, for example. I also think there may be some accepted standard dotfile for all logins, like ~/.login
