No idea, but RedHat and SuSE are virtually identical, certainly when it comes to compiling your kernel (make menuconfig, make dep, etc).

hmm, you're probably right, but i still wonder: how the hell do i configure/compile the kernel

Pleasee take not of what has been said before. If you go to the following page, which I linked to before, it will tell you how to configure andcompile the kernel:
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/Comp...ompilation.html If you don't understand it, then I really suggest you spend some time learning about GNU/Linux and networking before you dive into this. Nobody here can guide you through the entire process, sorry. |

Damn, that means that you should get out of the room as quick as you can before the box blows up...
![]() No, but seriously, that's perfectly normal. //NoXcuz

lol, ok, but the fact is that my log says:
"Console log for [name] [date] [time] [name] modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 [date] [time] [name] modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 [date] [time] [name] modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 [date] [time] [name] modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Console log for [name]" is that normal? |

As long as your sound card is working, there's no need to worry about it.

My modules.conf has something like: Quote:
Hope this helps!

You seriously need to buy a book about Linux.......I suggest Running Linux by Oreilly.

can you recompile the kernel to make it faster by enabling CPU extensions if they are not already enabled? what other things can u do when "configuring" it?

That's one reason for compiling the kernel. I haven't counted them, but there are at least ~500 choices to be made during configuration, and probably the easiest thing to do for getting information about what can be done is to go to the kernel source dir and run make xconfig or make menuconfig. Then browse through the different settings and hit help about the different items.
