What port you need to open, have you installed the corresponding service in the server.

    For example

Port 80 is open once we installed Apache server

    Have you checked iptables ?
    Code:
    sudo iptables -L
Also, if this is for a service, check '/etc/services' and ensure there's a line there for your service with the corresponding port number, and if not, add one in.
