I personally don't use the rpm install of APache/PHP/MySQL that comes with SuSE, but you should be able to install the mod_php which *I think* has support for MySQL. Otherways it's better to remove Apache, download the source for Apache, PHP & MySQL and compile them. But if you don't have any special needs, go for the rpm install of Apache, PHP and MySQL.

I think that trying to configure the default installations will cause you never ending troubles. I recommend uninstalling them all (apache, php,MySql) and starting from scratch.
Install from source, and you can configure them as much as you like. There are many excellent tutorials on installing from source, including this site, I believe. If you configure apache and php together you will get a lot better performance from your server.
