unreachable network-rh 8.0

unreachable network-rh 8.0
on-board NIC brand new motherboard.
ping 192.168.1.1 ( gw) unreachable network.

the console is 9 inches, I can;t read most of the "small" characters.

start up NIC is ok.

no firewall installed during installion period.

I have check /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

I cannot activate eth0

ifconfig and route does not show eth0

does any one help me ?
