?? USB printer and RedHat 7.2 ??

I bought a printer the other day. Today I downloaded the driver from the Lexmark site, then tried to run the install script and was told that it couldn't find USB support in my Kernel.
I thought it was there already (I have RH 7.2 with a 2.4 Kernel)

a ls a-l in /dev/usb shows stacks of stuff, including lp0 lp1 lp2 etc. Where do I go next??

Regards,
Christo

update..

I ran the following commands - just copying what somebody else did on the Lexmark mainling list, and suddenly the printer printed a peacock! Very nice...

modprobe usbcore
mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb/
modprobe usb-uhci
modprobe printer

looking in /var/log/messages shows:

so something is working.. I'll post back when it's all looking good Any of your input appreciated as I continue on this little journey!
