Which Linux should I learn?
Hello,
I use Windows a lot but I want to learn linux now. Is there any advantage to buying a copy or should I just download it for free? Which is the best version and the best place to download it from? I'm thinking of making my computer a dual boot system with Partition Magic. Is this easy to do? Cheers James |

Try any of mandrake, suse or redhat. They're all 'newbie friendly', but I think mandrake is the easiest one.
Go to their site http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/ http://www.suse.de/en/ http://www.redhat.com and see what they have to offer. Then locate the ftp site that's closest to you and start downloading either the .iso files or do a ftp install. Play around with it and if you find anything you like -> buy the product. That way you'll support the distribution and get lots of manuals etc that can be helpful to you. They're also very cheap and well worth the price you pay for them. Some (all?) of the distros come with their own tool that does the same thing as Partition Magic, however I would recommend using PM since it's a stable product and it's easy to use. //NoXcuz

Do you want to "learn" linux or just use it. If you want to learn it, download debian from www.debian.org
If you just want to use it, download redhat or mandrake. Alun Harford |

If you really want to learn *nix, go for *BSD...
