i was in the BSD forum reading about that OS and people there dont like linux much
. I love linux, but they say that BSD's are much better? can anyone tell me about the pro's and cons of linux and BSD?much help on this would be appreciated. I use mandrake linux, and i was considering using it for some serious server duties until i went into the BSD forum, god ignorance was bliss....... if i do decide to stay with linux, which is the best and closest to Unix? Slackware?

Trust me, even the small number of people on this forum could go on arguing over which is better for days, and you'd come out no wiser
![]() Basically, BSDs tend to be harder to use, but as a result they tend to be set-up better because the users are more experienced, and the OS can be more stable. GNU/Linux distros, on the other hand, vary in ease of use and stability, and so you can be a newbie or expert and still set-up a very good machine for whatever purpose. The only way for you to really find out is to try them both out If you have a server running GNU/Linux and you're not having any problems with it, then there's really no need to switch! If you are, then trying other distros and trying some *BSDs couldn't hurt.As for the closest GNU/Linux distro to UNIX... yes, Slackware. |
