X is leaving me :,(

I came home from work and fired up my laptop (RedHat 7.2). The Kernel booted fine, X loaded, then Gnome started up, but as the little icons rowed up along the bottom of the Gnome splash screen, I noticed they had multiplied... Maybe because I saved my session when shutting down earlier...
X loaded, some apps loaded too - Gaim, XMMS, Kmail.. but no background, no panel, no workspaces... just a blue screen and some running apps.
I am unable to retreive any of my usual environment, unable to load a console, unable to run Galeon, But I can middle-click on the background and get menus to load some applications... all wierd. I think it's because I saved my session earlier, and for some reason it isn't properly loading it. Where are gnome sessions stored/saved? How can I remove saved sessions? Or does anyone have any other ideas? This is such a wierd problem to explain... I can only apologise for that!

oh, and I have tried holding ctrl + shift when loading Gnome, but I think maybe I'm doing it at the wrong time... hmm.

anyway, off to bed now.

Christo
