x windows ?
can i access the cdrom on the linux os from x windows ?
or do i need to mount it first ? i just installed red hat linux 5.2.

Some of the newer version of GUI environments like GNOME and KDE automatically mount the CDROM when its inserted but I doubt an old version will do that. Just open a console and type mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom and you will be able to access the CDROM by going to the directory /mnt/cdrom.
You should really consider by about $4 for a newer version from someplace like CheapBytes You'll get a much better experience out of a version that isn't about 4 or 5 years old. |
