XP Pro vs. Samba
I am running a Qube3 on which I have a share.
I have two XP machines. DESKTOP is an XP Pro machine, belonging to WORKGROUP (same as the Qube3) on the same network as the Qube3. Username and password on this machine are exactly the same as the one on the Qube3. NOTEBOOK is an XP Pro machine belonging to a domain from work. I bring it home and have it connect to the same home network. Username and password are completely different from the one on the Qube3. DESKTOP gives an error when I try to \\www to my share. It says permission denied. It asks for password/username and I give it, and it still fails. NOTEBOOK connects just fine. It asks for the password/user and mounts the share. I don't know where to look for "differences" between the machines to even remotely understand why they would behave so differently to this. By all accounts, DESKTOP should connect and NOTEBOOK shouldn't, not the other way around. Any pointers or insights would be greatly appreciated. |

samba
i recently setup a redhat box with samba to share stuff to my 2k boxes, you need to map the SMB names (windows names) to a unix user acct, then set the passwords, in a shell prompt, type this (i think):
Code:
smbpasswd <windowsusername> it should then prompt for a password. i might be missing a step, but that SHOULD do the trick. 1i |

But...
Why then would the NOTEBOOK work and not the DESKTOP? I haven't done anything special.
