    no, neither.

    sambar is a proxy server.
samba is an emulation of a windows nt server or windows 9x machine in peer-to-peer network (depends on config).

if you want a router - the answer is really easy:
    you donŽt need any software

you need the linux kernel and the net-tools (which come with every linux distribution i can think of).

the kernel has routing capabilities and you just need to add routes like "route add -net 192.168.1.0 dev eth0" or "route add default ippp0".
    then type:
    echo "1">/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
    - and here is your router

yes and no - as always, this depends on the circumstances:

if you have 2 official ip adresses, this is exact the way i told you above.
if you have dial-up networking or only one static ip, you need masquerading (also implemented in the linux kernel )

which kernel version do you use ("uname -a")?

look in the support database of SuSE ( http://www.suse.com/sdb/en/html ). search for "MASQUERADING". the descriptions for older versions should work unless you have kernel 2.4.x. (maybe even then.)

    my last or beforelast post?

if you are that new to linux, you better get a book and learn some basics first.

iŽll still explain you anything i can if you are a little more specific. why do you want to insert what?

    yes. exactly. which version?

did you do the basic network setup in yast / yast2 so your windows box can "ping" your linux box and the other way around?

is your linux box able to connect to the internet already and can it ping hosts there?

you dunno about ping? did you ever do any networking before?

sorry, i doubt i can (and want to) teach you all this...

did you buy it? then there is a very good manual (on paper) that describes how to do it. i did not. i downloaded. so i canŽt tell you any page numbers i just looked through it in a local book store (yes, linux is sold in book stores in germany...)
