    Finally installed!!

Hey guys, I have FINALLY managed to get ubuntu installed on my Acer Aspire one netbook running the atom processor, ive installed 13.10 and all seemed to go very well so im not sure if they have fixed this in a recent update.

Anyway, i now have ubuntu installed but its running really slow, its on a 2GB machine so i figured id try install lubuntu and cinnamon but both seem to fail, heres what happens with lubuntu.

When i boot, i get the lubuntu GUI etc and all looks great but when i login it all returns back to what it originally looked like (ubuntu) so its like its not working and its still VERY slow.

I really like cinnamon and would like to get it going rather then lubuntu as i like the menu layouts etc, is it as light weight as lubuntu and a XDE enviroment ( im really new to linux lol )

    Thanks guys!

Really excited to run linux on this machine!

The issue may be that you haven't changed the default desktop environment.

It may also help to remove the Unity-related packages:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoremove --purge unity unity-common unity-services unity-lens-* unity-scope-* unity-webapps-* gnome-control-center-unity hud libunity-core-6* libunity-misc4 libunity-webapps*

Thanks for your reply, i got it sorted i just downloaded the lubuntu ISO and reinstalled over ubuntu and all is GO! Im using it right now

I do however have 1 problem still and it is regarding WINE!

I am trying to run a program (diydrones.com) called MissionPlanner which i have installed with WINE, but i receive the following error

Failed to change to directory '/home/dean/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Mission Planner/' (No such file or directory)

I have installed other windows based programs with no problems. Theres not a HUGE amount of info regarding this error

    Are you able to help

    Thanks!

It may not be runnable in Wine.

    See here for more details:
    http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/how-to-run-mission-planner-on-debian

Yes, they're talking about Debian, but generally speaking if a Windows program won't run in Wine on one distro, it won't run in Wine on another.

Ok so all is going fairly well, however i still have one rather large problem

Lubuntu is still quite slow, much slower then windows infact and i changed for a more lightweight and faster solution. So, what are my options here? What can i install that will be SUPER responsive and when i click firefox, firefox opens like straight away!

Here is a report of the general hardware.

    Thanks!
