    Question Should VPS server name look like primary domain name?

    Code:
    [nikos@dell ~]$ host superhost.gr
    superhost.gr has address 104.168.171.101
    superhost.gr mail is handled by 5 mail.superhost.gr.

    [nikos@dell ~]$ host nexus.superhost.gr
    nexus.superhost.gr has address 92.242.144.50
    nexus.superhost.gr has IPv6 address fe80:1::225:90ff:fe19:4b12
    Host nexus.superhost.gr not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
    [nikos@dell ~]$
    To my understanding:

    nexus.superhost.gr = my VPS server name, correct?
    superhost.gr = my primary domain, correct?

    Since "superhost.gr" is my primary domain name held in "nexus.superhost.gr" shouldnt both domain and server name share the same ip address?

    Please clarify this for me, so i can grasp this idea. Was it a good idea that i named the server as "nexus.superhost.gr" ?!

    Also afther this alternations(changing host name) i have no longer access as root via SSH.

    Question

    Hello,

    I think iam starting to understand now

    Code:
    nexus.superhost.gr.	IN	A	104.168.171.101
    nexus.superhost.gr.	IN	AAAA	2607:5501:1000:1ef::692b
    mail.superhost.gr.	IN	A	104.168.171.101
    mail.superhost.gr.	IN	AAAA	2607:5501:1000:1ef::692b
    is this an okey BIND configuration setup?

    1) I have given as you see both IPv4 & IPv6 addresses to hostname of my VPS server.
    As for mail authnetication i think its better to be using 'mail.superhost.gr' that 'nexus.superhost.gr' since in e-mail sending the MX server needs to have a PTR record so to be able to be resolved form ip address to hostname.
    Is this correct? Do i have to set a PTR too for 'mail.superhost.gr' ?

    2) What if as hostname of the server i give 'superhost.gr' which is the same name as my primary domain name?
    Would that be creating an issue or is it a good practise?

    You can use whatever hostname for your VPS/Server. The main reason why we should use a meaning domain to set hostname is about easily controling.

    If you change the hostname of VPS/Server, it cannot affect your SSH connection. If you change the domain name with IP, maybe it change the primary ip like your VPS/Server IP make you not able to connect to your VPS/Server. You should explicit the hostname of VPS/Server is different with the domain name has the name like hostname.

    Yes, Hostname and primary domain name is correct.

    Both url share same IP and it should be pointed to same IP. Your idea is good because everyone use similar hostname like server.example.tld

    If you can't access SSH then maybe because of your both domain IP is different. Point it to working IP.
