in the browser's connection settings, its set to direct connection to the internet... tho thers somthing on "No Proxy For" although its not editable cause it isnt selected, it has this on it: localhost, 127.0.0.1

shouldnt this option be in "auto-detect proxy settings" like i had it when i had PC?

No. That would have it fetch those PROXY variables i had you look for earlier, which aren't set.

Basically, all I can think of is that it's installed as a kernel module (which would have required your root password) or it's not there.

Hijackthis isn't what you think it is, and no, there's no mac version.

ok people listen up...
im really really mad at this now.. im really regreting buying this mac... i had mac sooo high in the sky and honestly it had fallen lower than ground level..
im soo tired of this.. right now im having this... actually in not showing the netster url now.. but for example: right now if i want to see a profile in myspace, when i click a link, the url in the address bar its supposed to be > http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=18396660
and all of a sudden changes to > http://profile.myspace.com/index.asp
and on the top of the window says: Here Are Your Heroic Search Results
and a list of "sponsored links"

the same happens with the google searches, in general, like a 70% of the pages im visiting now...
its a shame for mac, in windows i could fix that SO easily, and with mac ive been for over 3 days researching and in several forums and no one knows how to fix it, and im not the only one with this symptoms.... i really dont understand, i downloaded the netbarrier from the mac site, and its still happening.. i cant do anything formating cause theres nothing protectin this, nor a way to figure WTF is wrong..... i think im heading to the mall to get ma money back.... mac has just made me soooo upset

Reinstall OSX if you can't find the solution.

The problem is that you MUST have typed in your root password at some point, which gives the software the ability to install itself. At that point, it's hard to remove.
