Error message

First of all, I'm running on OS 9.2 Normally when I do a hard restart a message comes up that says disk first aid is taking care of the problems, but this time I got a message, which said the disk first aid couldn't fix it. When I went disk first aid and verified the problem I got this message:

Problem: Keys out of order, 4, 504

Is there anyway to fix it without having to use the software restore and losing all of my files?

I've never used Mac OS 9 however I would think that it would be a good idea to back up your work and run the software restore. Try booting your Mac from the CD.

Google didn't return anything on the problem so I'm at a little bit of a loss here . Hopefully somone else has seen this before.

Good luck,

Mark.

I'm computer illiterate. How would one back something up on an IBook?

On my 1Ghz G4 iBook running Mac OS X Panther I would just insert a blank CD then drag the files I want to backup onto the CD-R icon on my Desktop.

Maybe it works something like this on Mac OS 9 I have no idea but I'm sure someone here will know .

Take care,

Mark.

I tried using software install and system restore, but they both said that the disks couldn't fix it, and that I may have to reinitialize the start up disk.
