I don't know if this is the right forum, but it's the only Mac one I could find.
I purchased a new 12" iBook yesterday and decided to swap the 80gb hard disk that I had installed in my last iBook with the one included. I followed the instructions from a website ( http://uk.geocities.com/ibookupgrade/lower_case_removal.htm ) and all went fine (or so I thought). My old iBook powers on fine, but my new one doesn't at all. Not a sausage. Any ideas what I might have done wrong and what I could try to resolve this? Regards, Dax |

I've never done anything like this to my iBook but I keep thinking: as long as everything is connected correctly it should work fine right. Obviously I'm no Apple technician but your best bet would be to double-check everything you did.
This is of course assuming that the iBook was in working order when you got it and that there isn't any problem with the power supply [dead battery] or the connection. In this case then I would try and put things back as they were and see if that fixes things. If none of this works then I would try and send it back to Apple; though I'm pretty sure that this mod would normally void your warranty, so simply just don't tell them .Good luck, Mark.

Swapping out a hard drive is not a mod that voids the warranty!

I thought as a general rule that anything not described in the technical guide provided with your Apple notebook had to be preformed by an Apple certified technician or you risk voiding your warranty?
Of course I could be wrong on this one . I can understand what you're if were talking about Macs in general; adding/changing a HD in PowerMac is pretty straight forward since it's built with this in mind, but opening up an iBook/PowerBook is a little more complicated IMO.Anyway thanks for the info, Mark. |
