If you wanted to do it everytime you inserted the device, say you take it out a lot, I'm sure you could do it with AppleScript.
But if you are going to leave them plugged in it is really easy. Just Apple-I it and you will see the icon. Apple-I another object that you want the icon of, click the icon picture, Apple-c it and Apple-paste it to the destination icon. If you want to make your own, there is a tool that comes with the Developer tools that you may want to use Icon Composer.
