OS Version: 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)
Report Version: 2

Command: InDesign CS
Path: /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS/InDesign CS.app/Contents/MacOS/InDesign CS
Version: CS 3.0.1 (3010)
PID: 809
Thread: 0

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVAILD_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf7fffe0

The last line of the crashlog-

you can try deleting the pref file, that can sometimes do wonders for random crashes, the file is probably /Users/<your username>/Library/Prefences/com.adobe.indesigncs.plist or something like that (i don't have it so i can only guess)

and how much ram and drive space do you have? I'm not too sure about OSX but some OS's will just make things crash when you run out of RAM and swap space (actually i think OSX throws a low-mem popup if you get close to that, have you seen it?)

Sounds like an out of memory error, or the preferences thing edman suggested. Could you open a resources monitor to check how much memory and swap memory you have left while ID crashes? That would be helpful to know.

Deleting the preferences did not help.

There is 1GB of RAM, and ~18GB free.
There is no low-memory pop-up.

Can you post your complete crashlog? It would help a lot for determining just what is hiccuping.

Also, please post your full crash log. Just because the final result of the crash was the HIToolbox, which is a set of interface libraries used by almost all carbon apps. I doubt that was what really crashed, just the final thing the crash caused was the closing of the window of the crashing app. Somewhere in that crash log it will tell what the real cause of the failure was, and it's a simple work back through the log, once we see it.
