Keys do not repeat properly
In the keyboard and Mouse section of the System Preferences menu I have set the Key repeat Rate to the fastest setting (right) and the Delay Until Repeat to Off. So, repeat characters fast without any delay.
In Safari and Firefox when I type "www" in the navigation bar I get only two characters. Also in forms I always end up with "to" instead of "too". I played with the Keyboard and Mouse settings but there was no improvement. Any suggestions? What's the deal with this? Generally speaking I really like my MacBook (it just typed MacBok) but it has a lot of issues with its native applications. Evan (Edit) I just realized that this effects the backspace key as well. i was working on a php file and I tried to delete two // and since the keyboard does not "take" the first action I created an error because I left behind a single /. Here is another question. Is this a real problem or is it a poor configuration of my preferences? I will be very disappointed if this turns out something that I will have to live with because I spent over $2,500 for this laptop.

That sounds a lot more like a hardware problem then a software one. I'd take it back to the dealer and show them what's happening. There's a good chance that the keyboard is malfunctioning and they'll have to replace it (I do hope that it's still under warranty....)

It sounds like the keyboard itself to me, too. I just set delay to short and repeat to fast in my preferences on a Macbook Pro and the results were just what they should be.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar nearest you and, most likely, they'll replace the keyboard. It does seem like a strange hardware issue, but they'll check it out. $2500 for a Macbook? What did you put in there? I hope you didn't get 4GB of RAM, it costs literally ten times as much to buy that from Apple. |

I think it could easily be a software problem, if you installed any key shortcut type thing (basically any weird addon that may effect the keyboard) then i would suspect that, i would make a new user account and test the keyboard, if it works fine there then you know its software somewhere. If it still is funkey then boot off the CD and test in some of those text boxes, if it works there then i would recommend you just reinstall, and if it fails after that then try bringing it in
Also, make sure the system is up to date, the Macbook pros had a problem a while back in 10.5, basically after sleeping it would randomly make the keyboard stop working, while normally it was frozen for 30-60 seconds, i suppose if it went fast enough it could do something similar to what you say
