Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been released.
Have you ever tried the latest OS? Is there any improvement in performance or downgrade because of hardware limit? What is the recommended configuration for running all the things of the OS? ![]()

I think there is a small performance increase on the same hardware. The Finder for example is more responsive because it is multi-threaded.
The definitive review is probably the one at ArsTechnica: Ars Leopard Review I just installed on my Intel MacBook Pro yesterday evening because Amazon had delayed shipping. The installation went without any problems, though I did find my PostgreSQL launch daemon had been disabled by the operating system due to stricter security measures. It was just a matter of changing ownership to set that right again. I'll be installing on a G5 tower later today. |

According to the review, the latest OS sounds excellent. Appreciated if you share with us after you play it several days later. Cheers~

I'm having dificulty with Leopard. It's a bit faster and there are some amazing features (Time Machine and Spaces are both damn near perfect), but Stacks are completely useless and there's no simple way around them that doesn't involve an extra click. The menu bar should not be translucet - every tester of the dev builds said it was a terrible idea, and yet Apple only uped the opacity a little bit in the final release. It looks terrible - and as I usually have a black wallpaper with only a simple image in place, the bar becomes a dull gray - it's ugly.
The Ars Technica review keath linked to pretty much covers everything I think of it. I recommend giving it the read it deserves. |
