Mac G3 OSX wont boot

hi, i have a G3 (blue) and it wont boot past a blank light blue screen after the apple logo with the spinning circle at the bottom. its running OSX not sure what updates have been installed cause a friend has been using it for the past few months.

i have tried booting to safe more (shift) and single user (shift + s) and i think my cousin tried removing the RAM (seems to be a common way to fix things on the mac?) but i have no idea what to do becuase i am new to mac.

from what he tells me it seems to mayb be bad sectors on the drive. i would like to be certain before i shell out money on a new HDD.

so some help would be appreciated.. if i have not included enough info just let me know and i will tell u as much as i can. the help would be appreciated. thanks

Have you tried booting with your OSX install disk in the drive, and holding down 'c'. This should get you to the install screen, which you can quit, and then run disk tool to check the drive.

Cheers,
Simon

iBook G4 Tiger won't boot

I've been having the same problems, only mine are very recent. I purchased a mac for my mother no more than 6 hours ago, and I was configuring it. I was attempting to transfer some information over with an NTFS external hard drive, since I had sucessfully opened, explored and used files on it prior. As I was doing normal browsing, I plugged it in, and got a message saying "YOU NEED TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER NOW" right when I plugged it in. So, I reset my computer, and after that, it refused to boot. it got right to the light blue screen, and just stopped. I have tried all of these methods for fixing it, but none seem to work. I really need help on this. Thankyou.

You shouldn't bring back posts from 2004, and if you've got a problem, you should start your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's.

Doesn't really matter in this case.

qoxial: Welcome to Devshed, have you tried booting up the machine from the cd-rom like I described in my post above?
