My Little Xgrid experiment
I do 3D Animation stuff as a hobby as well as do a little video editing with FCP for friends videotaping birthday parties for their kids and such.
Anyway, even with a Dual 1.25 Ghz PowerMac G4 with 2GB of Ram, render time's annoyed me. Always wanted a little renderfarm, but budget didn't permit.
Well I waited and when the Mac Mini's went to base 512MB of Ram for $499 I bit and bought 4. Set them up and now have them running as Xgrid nodes and my PowerMac as the controller to handle Rendering. Vast improvements over just the dual PowerMac. I have a Dlink wireless router with 4 port 10/100 hub in the back & Cat 6 patch cables, so I am doing stuff with Airport Extreme with the PowerMac and .11g, so I am sure if I actually hardwired the controller into the network things would go a little faster.
Anyother ideas or tweaks for xgrid people know about?
