Odd Airport Connection Problem...
I am hoping someone here can help. I have a network set up in my apartment that consists of the following:
A D-Link DI-514 wireless router, secured with a 128-bit Hex WEP password, feeding an internet connection via a cable modem to: A PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz (my primary computer) running OS-X 10.4 which is connected to the router via it's built in Airport Extreme card; An old iMac DV (400 MHz G3) running OS-X 10.2 that is connected via an ethernet cable, and; A Clamshell iBook (366 MHz G3) running OS-X 10.3 that is typically connected via an ethernet cable. This computer is my girlfriend's primary computer because her PC's took a dump on her. My sweetie recently purchased an older Airport card on eBay so she could have a little more freedom with the iBook. My iBook is Airport-ready, so installation was a breeze. Once the airport card was installed in the iBook, I turned it on, opened the system preferences, configured the Airport connection to recognize my wireless LAN, set the Network Preferences to check the airport first, then ethernet, for an internet connection, turned on AppleTalk on the wireless connection, then restarted it, and the router and cable modem. That's where the fun began. When checking the network status afterward, the airport connection shows that it has been assigned an IP address by the router (and it's within the proper range) and that the computer is connected to the network and to the internet. So far, so good, you'd think. But I can't get to the net, and I can't access any of the other computers. It says I have a connection, but I don't seem to. I have tried everything I can think of. I have updated the firmware on the router, made sure all of the software on the iBook is updated, restarted the computer and reset the cable modem and router more times than I can count, and even tried connecting to the iBook with the PowerBook shut off. No dice. The iBook sees the router, and when I check the logs on the router, it shows that the router sees the iBook. So why aren't they sending info back and forth? When I hard wire the iBook again, everything is fine, just as it was before. The only thing I haven't done is tested the Airport card in another computer. The iMac needs an adapter to use the airport card, so I can't do that. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks a ton for seeing this one through to the end. Jody |

Hi.
I don't have any experience with this problem but a search on Google for "D-Link DI-514" found this "I had the same EXACT problem and have been pulling out my hair for a month. Here's the solution: -Goto the D-link router configuration site (198.168.0.1) -Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top, then click the "Performance" button on the left -Change the "Preamble" setting to "long" -Wait for router to restart, close programs, and try to get on the internet. This was posted for various Apple forums. Hope this helps." Good Luck. I hope this works for you. David. http://forums.devshed.com! Last edited by SimonGreenhill : March 11th, 2006 at 02:50 PM.
