Question Opening files eg. PHP in simpletext - Mac will not open files!?

Hi,
I've tried setting up the extensions in control panels and allocating 'simple text' as program to open my php & html files but it's still not working.

Any ideas why/how to solve this problem?

These files have been sent to me via e-mail from a PC.
I can create php & html files in simpletext so why won't it let me open these!?

thanks

They could be corrupted.

Try a different editor like BBEdit, or it's free version TextWrangler.

Well, seeing as Textwrangler only works with OSX I downloaded BBEdit lite. Only it doesnt work.

The files are definetley not corrupt.

The message I get is that the program that created the file cannot be found and 'could not find an translation extension with the appropriate translators'

A little frustrating...

If they were sent over the internet this could have destroyed the resource forks, if any were there in the first place.

Anyway, why not set the program you want to open the files with in the Info panel? This is how I do it on OS X. Of course if you're using classic then this wont work for you .

Click on a file and select "Get Info" from the Contextual Menu (Ctrl-click. Then in the "Open with" section, select the program you wish to open the files type with and hit "Change All...".

Hope this helps,

Mark.
