Hello,

I don't think 3d max is available for the mac.
However if you have an intel mac you can run windows in tandem
with OSX.

or you may need to find an alternative 3d application like maya
that will work on the mac.

To the OP it will not slow down the machine. I have a MBPro and I run Parallels and it runs pretty smooth.

What you're neglecting to say is that only one core will be running each OS...

Therefore it halves the potential max throughput of each OS.

In practice though, it will make little difference..

That's true; but it is possible to run windows natively on an intel mac.
Via Bootcamp.

You just need a partition on which to do it. The mac will also boot off of an external firewire drive.

Nowdays it is possible to run Windows/Linux natively on the mac and also call on that system back in OSX using Parallels. So you have the best of both worlds. It can even make each OS blend together using transparency so you can perform actions between each OS at the same time.

Yes, bootcamp is an option, but running a demaning application like 3ds max is not really feasible within parallels due to what I just mentioned.
Comments on this post
benno32 agrees: No--not in parallels.
