Removal of program
Hi,
I have a Mac iBook G4 and I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall a program (Kodak Easy Share). I think it's causing some problems with my book. I also can't seem to find any anti-virus software on this thing, I looked every where. Sorry for the dumb questions but fairly new to Mac. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you bjw |

generally to uninstall a program you just look around and see if you see an uninstall program, if you don't then you can just delete the application (move the icon to the trash and empty it), there are exceptions but that is usually for larger applications only
as for anti-virus, IMHO its useless, as none of them currently do much to protect a mac, there are no known viruses to search for so they just search for windows viruses so you don't send them to your friends [windows viruses can't do anything to your system], but if you want one then you can get symentec's here for security i recommend just turning on the firewall in System Prefs->sharing->firewall

^^ What he said except that there is one called Virex
There are virus out there for MAC OSX but mostly they have just been proof of concept viruses so far. There are also "Macros" contained within office documents that can potencially execute code on your machine but, disabling macros in the office suite sorts them out!! |

that's what i was looking for, I've used that one because its free with a .Mac account Quote:
actually there are no viruses, virus implies that it can install without your knowledge, there are about 2 proof of concepts, one requires you send in mp3 in a zip (would you ever open an mp3 in a zip?) to get user wide access, one requires you get past the 5 warning pop ups that OSX gives and then enter you admin pass to look at the "JPEG", the closest to a virus is a Trojan that can crash many applications (but not do anything else due to a bug in the Trojan), that requires you accept a file from a friend and run it (again generates a warning that you have to OK in short there are a handful of proof of concepts, but most have been patched to not run, the rest have been made completely ineffective through the use of warning dialogs, if you can get some type of malicious software on your Mac then your probably retarded since the OS has already told you its a bad idea 5 times over Quote:
well Office is just a piece of crap, i use OpenOffice/NeoOffice, if you insist on MS Office then either disable marcos or make it throw a warning before running any |
