Transfering Mac files to PC XP.
I have Files thats stored onto a Mac format External FW HD. I would like to transfer it to my PC running XP. The problems are that some files will not transfer due to invalid characters and sometimes it will produce an error saying that the files I am transferring does not exist or can not find it.
These files are on an external hd, is there a safe way to just transfer it via attaching my Firewire Drive directly to my PC and it will read it and it's just a matter of drag and dropping the files onto the PC. Is this possible? I have tried Networking it with my Mac, but that would mean going one by one on every file and changing certain characters which is alot of files and that some files it cannot find. The solution had been to burn a DVD copy of the files because apparently the reason why the PC can't see it is because I deleted this data or .db file that I was meant to keep which tells where all the files are or something and by burning it means it writes a new one. Also would mean I have to manually change the names to get rid of the invalid characters. There must be an easier and quicker way than that. Is there a mac software that alows you to change a drive full of files names in one go. Like eg. all the "%" change to "-" or another acceptable character that the pc can read. |

Zip it, copy the zip file, and unzip.

These are huge files I need to copy, will it get corrupted if I do not change the file names and remove the invalid characters?

What are the characters that are invalid ? What is reading these as invalid, the Mac or XP ?

I have mac files that I have labelled with characters such as ()#% etc. These will not load onto the PC. It sais invalid....
After renaming it or removing those characters from the file on my Mac, I can copy it onto the PC. I wonder if there is a software that can do batch renaming, where I just ask the program to look for file names that contain this character like "#" and change it or remove it from the file name. Does such a Mac software exist. |

As this has now moved onto what I think is a Mac problem, I'm moving this thread to Mac Help from Windows Help.
Any issues with this, then do not hesitate to PM me. ![]() |
