Welcome to the Mac Help forum!

Hi all,

As you may have read, Devshed today announced it's new Mac forum, as part of the "Operating Systems" section.

Anyway, as a Mac user and enthusiast, I'd like to welcome you all to our brand new forum – Mac Help! And encourage you to post any Mac related problems, thoughts and questions that you might have . Naturally this can be about anything you'd like, from new Mac hardware to installing Mac OS X or software development with Cocoa and Xcode!

Finally, just to break the ice, and to end this post nicely: what major version of the Mac OS did you first use when you came to the Mac; "Classic" or "OS X".

Have fun everyone,

Mark.

My first system that I remember was 7.5. However, I probably used some before that, as my parents had older macs that I have no recolection of. (from when I was like 3)

Wow, thats a pretty long time ago . The first version of Mac OS that I used was 9 and in college we had OS X. Then I think it was in my work placement when I first used a Mac properly. Anyone else want to add to this, just post your first Mac experience in here .

OK, looks like im the newb' here since I started with OSX. Still, I'm sure I'll learn a lot from both of you .

My dad had an Amiga when I was younger, can't say I was a big fan though. It was good for some things but a little under powered . The first computer I ever owned was just a box standard PC; a marked improvement but .

I think a better question would be - "which was the Apple OS that you liked "

My first apple os was 9. Hated it. Still hate it.

OSX on the other hand is a completely different story.

I don't really remember since it was such a long time ago, but I think it was either OS 7/8.

used 8 and 9 at school, sucked, rather use dos. Have OSX on my PC now, its fun to play with, if i had a powerbook, i would use it all the time, seeing i don't have the $$$$ for that kind of stuff, i will stay with just emulating it on XP.

Morning Simon, Locke,

I would agree with you on that one but I wanted a question that every Mac could answer. Though I did actually consider your Question.

But If like me have only really used OSX then you couldn't really say I like one over the other . So I went for the one that I thought would get the most people talking.

That said, If anyone does wants to answer what’s you fav' Mac OS go right a head: I'm with OSX aswell since I've heard that developing for Classic was a little "troublesome" .

[The Unix base and Cocoa framework played good part in my switching; and It all looked so beautiful too].

Mark.

Wow, you guys are making me feel old. I think it was system 5, but not sure. It was 1985 and my mac has a whopping 128MB of RAM and ran off of floppies -- hard drives were way to expensive then.

Through the years, I've had an assortment of computer, including Windoze and Linux, but have always had Mac on my desk.

We've come a long way baby. But honestly, all those systems before X were near as bad as you guys are making them out to be -- at least not compared to Win 3.

Hey thanks for the trip in the way-back machine!
