Whats a good wireless card for G4 Powerobook?
I've had a G4 powerbook for about 5 or so years, and bought an Airport card for it when I got it. Wireless was ok, wasnt really ever more than 20 or so feet from the router, but my wife is using it now at school, and shes a bit farther, and her connection constantly drops. Using a PC at the same spot has normal wireless quality, so I'm guessing its the card.
Whats a good, relatively cheap USB (or another card I can stick in) that would work? I've scanned the shelves at Walmart for some USB ones, but they dont explictly say Mac, so I've been wary about buying them.

One relatively cheap way of getting out of it might be to chekc out eBay for an Airport Extreme Card. They are the newer ones that have work with a higher range and with the G Standard network. I've got that built into my G4 laptop, and my Mini and they work well. The plug-in cards should have the same sort of performace.
Unfortunately I can't recommend any USB or other devices as I haven't had the need ot use them yet, but it would be nice to know of ones that do work. From what I've seen, it's mainly about the chipset that they use for the cards. If you can research that a bit, then you mgiht find something that'll be compatible. |
