Authenticated user cannot send to DL

Hello all,

Got a weird one here....but with Microsoft I guess I shouldn't call it weird, more like par for the course.

I have one domain user that can't send mail to my ALLUSERS distribution list. We are using Exchange 2007, and Server 2003.

The error they receive is:

550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired; authentication required

OK, here's the weird part. This user *is* authenticated! They are using Outlook, and their account settings show the username checked successfully. Also, I took a look at Additional Account Information in AD for the user, and it shows their last successful login was today.

I googled the error, and it seems that all the suggestions are the same: Uncheck the "Requires Authentication" requirement on the Sender Restrictions properties of the DL.

Not an option here. As I said, this DL is for ALLUSERS, and removing the authentication restriction will of course allow spammers to send to the DL.

Ideas? Thanks in advance for all assistance...

Ric

Well, you could create a list (maybe it will let you make a group) and set it to allow mail from only that list of people.

You could un-check the box that requires all users be authenticated. It won't create any more of a spam risk than your users already have. The only drawback is it creates a one-stop-shop for a spammer (i.e., hitting the distribution list will spam everyone).

Seack79,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did actually consider doing that, but I ended up deleting the account from AD and recreating it, and that did the trick. I had to send a field tech out to POP down all her email before I deleted the mailbox, and he had to move all her info into the new profile, but all in all not that big of a deal.

Thanks again,
Ric

Yeah that was one thought I had too, but I was hoping you wouldn't have to do it.
