Email Clients hanging on certain emails

I've been getting reports from people who are having certain emails hanging their client. In other words they just don't download any more mail.

I have reports from users on two different mail systems so far, both a Qmail system and a Sendmail system. I have had users reporting the same problem in Outlook, Netscape and Eudora. Our users are logging in via WebMail and deleting the messages, at which point the client works fine again.

Has anybody chased this down to a cause? And if so, is there a good cure for a sendmail/linux system?

No Solution

Don't know for sure the cause, but we have had several users mostly using OE 5 and 6. With this problem. Yet we (admin) can setup to check the same accounts using OE 5 and get all the mail just fine. At which point the users are able to receive mail again as well.
Try to scandisk / defrag the HD on client machines, may be unable to write data. Also, possible worm or virus activity on the client side? We had one that was looking like a corrupted email, turned out that a worm was breaking the port 25 connection so it timed out.

BTW We are running qmail 1.03

Message headers

The symptoms are the same as we've been seeing. -Check your message headers and file sizes. I'll bet most (if not all) are 650k or smaller and have incomplete message headers.

The ones we've been seeing are from poorly configured SPAM zombies running of cable modems.

Look for something like Message ID: <W[20

Please post your results - I'm curious to see if our problems are the same.

Also, we're running TNSoft's mail server on Win2k.
