Exchange 2007 service pack 2

Hi everyone, I'm new to the devshed forums and a bit of a novice. when it comes to Exchange 2007.

I have been tasked with managing an Exchange Server 2007 system, Exchange is SP1, which is running on Server 2008 SP1.

The question I have is, due to the lack of log pruning capabilities in Exchange 2007 SP1, I need to upgrade to SP2. The problem I have is that the disc space is limited to 8Gb due to the log files not getting pruned when a full back up is performed. Do I need to update Server 2008 to SP2 before I update Exchange 2007.

I have Googled a heap and haven't found anything that says I do?

Any help would be much appreicated.

The only thing relating to requirments of 2008 I found on a technet blog and it states that I just need to ensure that Windows Installer 4.5 is installed.

The machine on which you run the Exchange 2007 setup schema extension process must be:

a. Windows Server 2003 SP2 with Windows Installer 4.5 installed
b. Windows Server 2008 with Windows Installer 4.5 installed
c. Windows Server 2008 SP2

Has anyone any experience of this?

According to this website Exchange 2007 SP2 is supported on both Windows Server and Windows Server SP2. For security and stability reasons I would recommend upgrading the Server to Server 2008 SP2 before starting (since service packs are a colleciton of the latest updates and security patches).

Thanks for the response seack79, I managed to install Windows Installer 4.5 and update Exchange 2007 to SP2 without updating the OS to SP2, I did this as I was unsure what space the OS update would take up. All went well with the update and at the weekend I'm going to update the OS.
