Gah......open relay:(
Man it never ends it seems sometimes.
Just discovered that one of our exchange servers was config'ed for open mail relay. Que was over 87K messages Well we nuked that connector but we lost external mail delivery in the process. From what I gather Exchange(2003) should deliver mail without a connector, and the connector is used mainly to control routing. After we deleted the connector we telnetted to test for open relay and we find that the rcpt to utsidedomain.com still returns a 250 2.1.5 user@anydomain.com response. We thought that after the conncector was removed that we would more correctly recieve something like this: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for user@anydomain.com However we see hundreds of these events in App log: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeTransport Event Category: SMTP Protocol Event ID: 7010 Date: 10/8/2004 Time: 4:44:18 PM User: N/A Computer: Dontknow Description: This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #800. The client at "61.31.134.156" sent a "rcpt" command, and the SMTP server responded with "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for yoweili0720@yahoo.com.tw ". The full command sent was "rcpt TO: <yoweili0720@yahoo.com.tw>". This will probably cause the connection to fail. Can anyone shed any insight on these problems? Thanks in advance ![]() |

I'm sure people will laugh when they see this because it seems so obvious, but when you are dealing with so many settings and configuration options missing one of them is easy.
So here it is, uncheck lowest box on address space tab of connector properties ![]() |

Well crap, new problem now. No outbound mail.......
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Test Sent: 10/8/2004 1:47 PM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: any@email.com on 10/8/2004 1:47 PM A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator. <emailserver.email.com #5.3.5> Why, why, why?????? ![]() |

Event ID 7004 In Exchange 2003 FIX
Whats new In Exchange 2003 For error 7004 Try this It worked for me.....I found this Document On Chapter 6 & only used step 4 The registry hack
: To enable an Exchange server to accept message extended properties sent anonymously 1. Start Registry Editor: Click Start, click Run, and then type regedit. 2. In the console tree, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPSVC\XEXCH50 3. Right-click XEXCH50,point to New, and then click DWORD Value. 4. In the details pane, type Exch50AuthCheckEnabled for the value name. 5. By default, the value data is 0, which indicates that the XEXCH50 properties are transmitted when mail is sent anonymously.
