Linux sub-domain smtp with Win2k/Exchange2k server PDC
Hello all
In short, I (newbie) want to receive email via Exchange, and then relay to Sendmail on a RH9 Linux server.
A little more detail: -
I wish to be able to transfer emails to and from a Linux subdomain (that is being used for web development - has webmin loaded) via our PDC win2k / exchange 2k server, and use the win2k server as the gateway to the outside world for the second subdomain. (I am using a class C private IP system behind a firewall. The windoze setup presently handles internal/external email on the first subdomain correctly).
I have tried in vain to do this by defining the IP of the subdomain in a DNS forward lookup zone (having reserved this IP in DHCP) and then adding the domain as a SMTP e-mail address in the default policy for exchange.
However, internal emails from the exchange server cannot reach the subdomain although the reverse works ok.
I imagine that after I resolve this issue I shall need to setup an internal relay for posting outside from the Linux machine. Is this correct please?
Of course, someone else must have wanted to do this before and have a more elegant solution........
Thanks in advance
Alan
