Looking for mail server

Hi,

I am looking at signing up for a dedicated server and hosting web sites. The company I am looking at has a good price on servers but the servers don’t come with a mail server so I am trying to find an affordable mail server that can handle up to about 200 IP addresses.

I looked at imail which is what they use where I have my own site hosted but that is in the $1000 range, kind of steep at this stage of the game.

Any ideas?

That's an odd criteria. Please explain this further. IP address assignment is handled by the operating system. The mail server has nothing to do with it. What are you trying to achieve here?

qmail will likely suit your needs. It's free, fast, modular, and has never had any security problems. It doesn't run on Windows.

Qmail is usually built from source so it will work with just about any distribution. Check out the documentation at Life with Qmail. It will give you step by step instructions on downloading and installing Qmail.

also, www.qmailrocks.org...There isn't a Mandrake tutorial, but there are a number of other tutorials that may help you.

Clarifiying...You mentioned that the service you want to go with doesn't have a mail server on the Server. I assume they are giving you ROOT access to the co-located box...you will obviously need that ...
