Question Mail Relay Setup

I was hoping to setup a server running FreeBSD and SpamAssassin and forward the approved messages to a Microsoft Exchange server. Unfortunately, I do not know how I would go about doing that. Would it be better to install SpamAssassin on the Exchange server itself? Mighty confused here, I'd appreciate any help.
